Socks, Underwear, And Education Are Helping Solve A Problem

Caridad began in 2010 and started the collection of lost and found clothing items from Downtown San Diego businesses to be sorted and re-distributed to the best suited local homeless charities. This has resulted in the distribution of over 23,400 outfits and 700 pairs of shoes. This was done through $42,000 of in kind donations and the use of over $4,000 in cash donations with only $400 of administrative expenses because of all volunteer labor.
On November 11, 2011 Caridad held a fundraiser for homeless veterans with an emphasis on homeless veterans’ charities, raising over $4,000. The Water Man Check in Center was one of the charities from the Veterans Day event and Caridad went on to help secure for the Check in Center $45,000 in emergency funding from the City of San Diego and another $14,000 in private donations.
